InfoComm's Encore: 4 Leading UC Trends | Vyopta

InfoComm 2017 leads the industry down the road of innovation, challenging the way we think about how technology works. And in true form, this year’s conference leaves a resonating impression with all the attendees.

The conference’s goal to show off the most creative approaches in the latest technologies resulted in revealing four resounding trends about UC including:

#1. Pricing in Terms of Scaling Video

The value of being able to quantitatively gauge the economic benefits from your enterprise’s UC investments will greatly benefit your organization. This is important because you want to use your organization’s money wisely to receive the most ROI possible. To be more successful with your business and video / UC environment, you must focus more on understanding how resources’ adoption, utilization, and investment levels are tied to your workflow.

#2. Interoperability

As we continue to progress in this futuristic world, it seems the prevailing client expectation of vendors is that everything being built (hardware and software) should have interoperability with the broader UC industry. CiscoPexip, Zoom, and Blue Jeans are examples of UC technology platforms who hone in on this multi-vendor communications interoperability.

During the conference, there was frustration about the small presence of Microsoft as they’re such a large player in the UC market. Another note of contention surrounding Microsoft is the minimal attention to interoperability, which businesses require from video / UC technology companies.

#3. Usage of the Cloud

Many large enterprises shared how they’re adopting hybrid, public, private, or multi-cloud service strategies. This is a substantial step forward in comparison to 7-8 years ago when it was first being developed. The industry never could have predicted how fast the cloud would be adopted. As UC cloud services continue to expand, it’s safe to say that video / UC technology solutions are delivering greater flexibility in deployment and pricing with the help of the cloud.

#4. Persistent Chat Rooms

These opportunities create topic-based discussion rooms that continue over time and host communication and collaboration among a group of people. Examples of such communication systems being widely adopted across the industry to increase efficiency within the workspace include the rise of Cisco Spark, Slack, HipChat, and many more. These chat rooms are cost-effective spaces to share ideas and information by posting messages in real time, which allows for more creativity and productivity to occur on the fly. Their easy accessibility, uncomplicated monitoring, and straightforward alert and filter building are only a few of the advantages causing persistent chat rooms to continue expanding.
