As we see announcements that remote work will continue at a greater pace into the fall and beyond from companies like Dell, Twitter, and even some county governments like Travis County, we find those are fairly in line with our expectations especially with technology companies. While remote work has been steadily on the rise for the last decade, companies who never would have embraced it in the past have been forced to adapt and are now seeing that, not only is it possible, but in some ways their teams have become more productive.
While we won’t see an end to onsite work, the work environment that we go back to is bound to look significantly different. Rather than attempting to get as many people as possible into a certain amount of square footage, different considerations will have to come into play, and in-room sensors that were previously used to track the occupancy and usage of conference rooms may be used in different ways to ensure that safety and social distancing measures are being followed. We expect to hear more announcements from technology companies that remote work will continue for an extended period.
We will not be mandating that employees come back to the office anytime soon, but we know that some employees are eager to come in, and we are exploring ways to make the office as safe as possible for their eventual return.
