Microsoft Ignite: Our Takeaways

Microsoft Ignite: Our Takeaways

Last week professionals from dozens of industries gathered in Orlando, Florida for a full week of tech conversation at Microsoft Ignite, with over 35,000 attendees and three fold cups of coffee consumed, there was enough for everyone from cyber security to unified communications. Vyopta was excited to see the innovation in our industry and we’re here to provide our key takeaways from the event:

State of the Unified Communications Industry

UC is an exciting industry to be in, and Ignite solidified that. Despite being a non-UC&C specific conference, the amount of announcements and partner activity was exciting to see! The UC club all work together like a team — there were key announcements of interoperability like Cisco devices supporting Microsoft Teams and vice versa, but there was also a rise of interop providers like Pexip, Poly and BlueJeans that confirmed that UC options will prevail and are wanted by customers.

The great Microsoft Teams migration

From what we saw at the conference, more and more of our customers and prospects are moving from Skype for business to Microsoft Teams. Many of the people we talked to were planning or currently undergoing a migration from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams to ensure service quality and adoption.

The Future of the workplace

Workspace and workplace optimization with digital collaboration is at the top of mind for many in the collaboration space, and there has been more crossover within UC operations and facilities operations groups to have better visibility of workspace usage. This is a trend to identify ways to improve across the office spaces, campuses, and remote offices around the world as more people will collaborate digitally. The rise of ad hoc meetings and huddle spaces over the traditional rigid conference room will continue to proliferate.

Intelligent Video Endpoints

There has been a massive rise in intelligent IoT video endpoints for meeting spaces in the last few years. Intelligent endpoints from vendors like Poly, Cisco, Logitech, and many others are continuing to get smarter and help produce valuable data important to understanding how enterprises are collaborating and using their workspaces effectively. Things like detecting people count and room presence is finally making its major breakout, making data platforms even more useful.

How Vyopta Fits In

Our announcement that we will have full support for Microsoft Teams coincides with many announcements that make us excited about future support with our partners. With so many innovations across so many different vendors, a single pane of glass for managing performance and utilization for all collaboration hardware and software becomes evermore important. But far away from our booths and the Microsoft expert sessions there was still a lot of fun to be had!

We entertained friends and customers at Top Golf

And also had a blast at Universal Studios after hours! (Our favorites were the Harry Potter rides)
